LITTLE SALLY PRAYED

By Mike Chaffin

“Merry Christmas Jesus,” little Sally prayed.  “My daddy said you were born in a stable.  I thought that would be really scary, but my mommy said you weren’t scared.  She said you didn’t even cry!  That was really brave.”

“Then an Angel appeared to shepherds in the field and told them you had been born.  Those shepherds were sure frightened.  They were shaking so much the Angel had to tell them not to be afraid.  After they were told the good news about you they decided to come see you.  I bet a lot of the little lambs came with them to see who it was that was going to be taking their place.  I can just see those lambs almost running ahead of those poor shepherds to get to see you.  Did you smile and wink at them when they came up to the manger to nuzzle your cheek?”

“Later, three wise men followed a star to get to worship you and bring you birthday presents.  Those guys were really smart to be able to find you and daddy says that gold, frankincense and myrrh are really expensive, so they must have been really rich as well.  That means when you were born you told the poorest, most uneducated people and the smartest, richest people you had come to bring the Kingdom of God to earth.  You’re the Savior of the whole world!  I don’t know what I’m getting for Christmas this year but nothing could ever be better than the present you gave me.  YOU!  Merry Christmas, Jesus.  Amen.”
