Oilfield Workers Sharing Christ Around the World

The Peace Everyone Is Looking For

Isaiah 26 2-4; “Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. 3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. 4 Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.

One Sunday afternoon as I sat on the couch reading the newspaper and watching a baseball game on the television, my four year old grandson crawled onto the couch, and reclined in the crack between my side and the sofa cushion. Once snuggled in, he let out a peaceful sigh exclaiming, “Oh, this is comfortable.” I was immediately drawn to the idea that this may be exactly our proclamation once we reach heaven.

My grandson was perfectly at peace, knowing he was safe, protected and loved. One day when we get to heaven we will experience the ecstasy of never having fear, hunger, worry or trials. We will be at perfect peace.

However, Jesus taught that if we don’t become like a child, having child like faith and humility, we will never enter the kingdom of heaven. We adults have trials in this life. We have to earn a living for our family; we worry about our children, our jobs, our loved ones and our country. But, Jesus taught us many things about having peace here on earth, and I was reminded by the actions of my grandson those sayings we too often forget. Here are just a few.

Proverbs 14:30, “A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.”

John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Romans 8:6. “The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;”

Romans 14:17, “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,”

Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Galatians 5:22, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

And in closing I give you a great verse to hang on to, (one of those great Route 316 directions God has given us), 2 Thessalonians 3:16 “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.”
