In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

When I read this verse, I am reminded of the great Christmas hymn, “Go Tell It on the Mountain.” One of my favorite verses in this song is,

“Down in a lowly manger
Our humble Christ was born
And brought us all salvation
That blessed Christmas morn”

John, in poetic fashion, tells us Jesus is God. In the Old Testament there are many references to things happening by the Word of God. We saw this in the 7th Most Referenced Verse.

One of the greatest attributes of God is He is unchanging. He was before the heavens and earth. He created them then created us. God loved us so much that He came to earth to be born and live among us so He could show us how to live. He created a way of salvation for us.

So, we see Jesus is all about beginnings. He is also all about endings. Jesus himself tells us that He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Therefore, our relationship with Him is of utmost importance.

None of us begin well. We are all born sinners. Our success is measured by our ending. In the end we need to be a child of God, born again, living for Jesus and heaven bound. Peter wrote in 2 Peter 3 the key to ending well,

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,…. 14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation— 2 Peter 3:10-11, 14-15

Since Jesus could come at any time, we need to be ready. If you haven’t made the decision to accept Christ as Savior, I urge you to ask Him into your heart. It’s time.

Prayer: Lord thank you for your unchanging love toward us. You save us from a life of sin so we can live a life of holy conduct and godliness looking forward to the day we see you in Heaven. Come Lord Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.

* There is a website that conducted a search for Bible verses. They compiled a list of the verses in order of the magnitude of hits they got in their search. Some of these verses qualify as ‘people’s favorites’, while others might be on the list because they are some of the most important and most teachable words of God.
