Oilfield Workers Sharing Christ Around the World

45th MOST REFERENCED VERSE ON THE INTERNET*

By Mike Chaffin

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

I recently attended a guided tour of a museum exhibit.  I was very interested to learn more about the exhibit and the history it represented.  However, I was embarrassed for the tour guide.  He couldn’t answer any question with authority.  People finally quit asking questions, realizing the man didn’t know the facts.  You could tell he was over his head, and ashamed of his lack of preparation.

Paul warns Timothy to not be like that tour guide.  It’s a warning for all of us who call Jesus our Savior.

This verse fits nicely with the previous verses in this series.  In one of those verses, Jesus said if we love Him, we will obey His commands.  If we haven’t studied the Bible, we won’t know what commands to obey.

One of those commands is to be holy for He is Holy.  How do we get there is the question every Christian seeks to find an answer.  Through daily Bible reading, prayer, and studying God’s Word we show ourselves approved and learn to rightly understand God’s promises.

Being part of a Bible study and attending Church is a great place to start.  Remember, there is no shame in asking a question.  The shame comes when someone asks us about the hope we have in Jesus Christ and can’t give them a clear answer.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to grow in maturity so that I can rightly divide your Word and know the truth.  Help me to be able to discern false teaching from the truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

* There is a website that conducted a search for Bible verses.  They compiled a list of the verses in order of the magnitude of hits they got in their search.  Some of these verses probably qualify as ‘people’s favorites’, while others might be on the list because they are some of the most important and most teachable words of God.
